Japanese egg tofu with spicy soy sauce


  • 1 roll of silken Japanese egg tofu, cut into a couple of round pieces
  • 4 pieces of shallots
  • 2 clove of garlic
  • 2 pcs of large green chili
  • 7 pcs small red chili padi
  • 3 pcs large red chili
  • 3 sheets lime leaves, sliced thinly
  • 1 pcs of green onion sliced thinly
  • 3 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 tablespoon of water, can be adjusted according to your own
  • 5 tablespoon of corn flour for coating the egg tofu



  • slice the egg tofu and coated with corn flour evenly band deep fry, once done put them aside
  • sautéed shallots, garlic and sliced lime leaves, as well ass all the cut chilis (I prefer to be long sliced) then add the sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, salt and pepper to taste then add sugar (this is an options but it will give that extra umami flavor) then to finish it off add bit of water, also adjust according how you like your sauce. always test the sauce and apply more salt and pepper if necessary
  • lastly place the tofu nicely on the plate than pour the sauce of top of tofu, then garnish with sliced green onion, SERVE
